Emmylou is the foundation of our breeding program at Lunatic Fringe Pudelpointers.
From an early age, Emmylou demonstrated strong natural ability, cooperation, and a high degree of biddability. She was introduced to wild birds early in her development and has since been hunted extensively on grouse, woodcock, and pheasant, as well as a wide range of waterfowl. Her experience includes early-season teal and wood duck hunting, as well as late-season conditions involving mallards, divers, and sea ducks in January in the Atlantic Ocean. Throughout this exposure, she has consistently demonstrated the ability to adapt to varying terrain and conditions while maintaining composure and effectiveness in the field.
Emmylou has been evaluated through the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) testing system and has performed at a high level throughout her testing career. Out of approximately 2,000 dogs that ran the Natural Ability Test in 2021, she was the third youngest to achieve a maximum score of 112. At 15 months of age, while still eligible for the Natural Ability Test, she was entered in the Utility Test and earned a Prize III with a score of 191, placing her among the youngest dogs to successfully complete that test. At just over two years of age, she achieved a maximum Utility score of 204 Prize I.
In addition to her testing accomplishments, Emmylou has demonstrated consistency in the field across multiple hunting seasons. She exhibits a strong and reliable pointing instinct and maintains an exceptionally cooperative demeanor. Her water work is steady and confident, including retrieves under demanding late-season conditions.
Emmylou’s role within our program is based not only on her pedigree, but also on her in-home demeanor, her NAVHDA testing performance, and her demonstrated ability under demanding hunting conditions. Her natural ability, temperament, and consistency in the field are the traits we seek to preserve through selective breeding. As a foundation female, her influence is intended to carry forward in future litters through carefully planned pairings that reinforce these characteristics.
She represents the standard by which we evaluate our dogs and the expectations we maintain for the pudelpointers produced within our program.
